Pre-Social Work Program
As a social worker, you’ll support children and families, advocating for fair treatment and assuring their needs are met. While pre-social work is not a major itself, we’ll match you with a degree and the necessary coursework required to prepare you for admission into a social work program.
Pre-Veterinary Sciences Program
As a veterinarian, you’ll provide necessary treatment and care for animals, and be a resource of health and wellness knowledge for their human caretakers. While pre- veterinary science is not a major itself, we’ll match you with a degree program and the necessary coursework required to prepare you for admission into a school of veterinary science.
Principal and Building Leadership Certificate (Graduate)

Northern’s graduate certificate in principal and building leadership is a flexible and affordable opportunity for educators who have already earned a master’s degree in education to complete the coursework required to become a licensed principal.
Psychology Bachelor's Degree
Public History Certificate
Format: Online or On Campus
Public history is history, practically applied. Public historians work outside of the classroom to share history and historical methods with the public. Public historians work in museums, archives, art galleries, state and local preservation offices, and a wide variety of private consulting firms.
Quantitative Analytics in Science Certificate
Northern’s Quantitative Analytics in Science Certificate will give you a formal route to acquiring quantitative skills applicable to most fields. The certificate focuses on how quantitative skills can be utilized in the physical and biological sciences.
Secondary Education Bachelor's Degree
Secondary education bachelor's degree graduates from Northern State University are in high demand in South Dakota schools and throughout the U.S.
We provide hands-on, effective teacher preparation that includes extensive experience in actual secondary classrooms.
Social Science Education Bachelor's Degree
As a social science education major at NSU, you'll be prepared to teach a wide range of history and social science courses at the middle and high school levels. In many schools, the ability to teach multiple subjects is highly valued.
Your studies will include a solid core of courses in history, government and geography. You'll also have the option to take courses in economics, psychology and sociology. Rounding out this degree are required teaching courses.
