Ms. Melanie Jacobson was born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She earned her M.S. in mathematics from South Dakota State University with a thesis entitled "Two-Color Classical and Continuous Rado Number Results." She also has her B.S. in mathematics with a teaching specialization, economics minor, and honors college distinction. Ms. Jacobson taught mathematics and coached speech and debate at the high school level for several years before joining Northern's faculty in 2018 and the Center for Statewide E-Learning in 2023.
